Madhya Pradesh selects 34 cities for AMRUT, 16 for housing scheme

The state government has earmarked Rs890.25 crore for 19241housing units in 16 cities

BHOPAL: In all, 34 cities of Madhya Pradesh have been chosen for AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) scheme while, state is the first among others who has included 39 cities for `Housing for all 2022′ scheme.

Replying to a debate on urban development and environment budget proposals in assembly on Wednesday, minister of state for urban development Lal Singh Arya said that government has set target under `housing for all’ schemes in 74 cities by 2017-18. “This is a dream for chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for which EWS houses of 30 square meter and LIG housing of 30-60 square meter will be constructed,” he said.

The state government has earmarked Rs890.25 crore for 19241 housing units in 16 cities. “The state government will provide subsidy of 6.5% on interest for the housing loan,” disclosed the minister.

Prominent cities included namely Indore, Bhopal Jabalpur, Gwalior, Sagar, Katni, Ratlam, Singrauli, Rewa, Satna, Chhindwara, Morena, Burhanpur, Chhatarpur, Hoshangabad, Birsa, Dindori, Damoh, Khurai, Chandla, Patharia, Rampur Baghelan, Budni, Harda, Bhind, Guna, Mandsaur, Betul, Seoni, Datia, Sarni, balaghat, Tikamgarh, Khajuraho, Nasarullaganj, Anuppur and Shahganj.

There are 35 cities in the coming list for which government is preparing a DPR,” said Arya. He said the state government has also sanctioned 11897 housing units in 31 districts under Atal Ashraya Yojana. “People with an annual income of Rs3 lakh or more will get EWS houses worth Rs6 to 8 lakh, those with income of Rs6 and above are eligible to get LIG houses worth Rs10 to 14 lakhs,” said Arya adding, the state government will also provide subsidy of 6.5 % on the interest of the housing loan.

It was also informed in the house that Centre has selected 34 cities of the state under AMRUT scheme where citizens will get basic amenities like drinking water supply, sewerage and urban transport, to improve quality of life.

Government has sanctioned Rs2,911.63 crore for drinking water supply, 4,628.27 crore for sewerage, 180.01 crore for water treatment, 351.05 crore for urban transport and Rs207.64 crore for children’s park,” said the minister.

Cities selected in AMRUT scheme included Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ujjain, Dewas, Morena, Satna, Sagar, Ratlam, Rewa, Katni, Singrauli, Chhindwara, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Bhind, Guna, Shivpuri, Vidisha, Chattarpur, Mandsaur, Khargone, Neemuch, Pithampur, Damoh, Hoshangabad, Sehore, Betul, Seoni, Datia and Nagda. These cities have population of one lakh or more, said Arya.

The minister also informed the house that state government has approved construction of 4 lakh toilets of which 1.50 lakh toilets were made by the state itself.

Raising the issue of poor development in several cities, Congress members Jitu Patwari and Kamleshwar Patel said the government should focus on underdeveloped areas and not on developed cities.

Patwari said, Smart city area selected in Indore is already a developed part of the city. Government should have selected backward areas for this.

“The state housing board and development authorities are also ignoring poor class. Affordable houses should be made for poor but the government agencies are trying to compete builders by increase rates”, said Kamleshwar Patel.
